The Statue of Liberty

The New Colossus
By Emma Lazarus, 1883

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

This poem really makes me think how alot of people can be so hipacrit,because the statue is welcoming people need of liberty but then again the people of high class the ones that have the liberty want to judge and miss treat the ones who are willing to work and earn their liberty.They just want and need to earn a better life here in this land, in the home that we once took away from somebody else. In my eyes and in my belief immagrints diserve a chance beacuse on this soil we are all immagrints and thats why we have the statue.The statue that symbolises what we are all here for,FREEDOM.
